In other news, I'm back in training again. My dad offered to pick up the tab on classes at the school he's been going to, so I couldn't let that by. Shaolin Kempo this time, which is like kung fu mixed with a healthy dose of karate. Hard style blocks and strikes, which I'm really digging as I did a LOT of soft style before, and chin-na (which he ( Read more... )

Your inspiring me to start classes too. There is a new studio that opened up here, which is extremely rare and a gift from the gods, so I want to support them so they can continue to be open. Mostly I want to do it to stay in shape and for self defense purposes. I am also thinking of taking some Krav Maga classes. Just incase we do have a complete breakdown of our society. I would like to be able to fight people that are coming for my last can of beans. Unless, of course, they bring a gun or if they are a zombie then I am fucked. That is why I plan to join forces with Gator.

OH I JUST REALIZED.

The guy who got me INTO kung fu and whom I love dearly actually lives in Pittsburgh now! (Technically, I had been calling him sifu for a month or two before my sifu decided he wanted to adopt me.) I know he's been thinking about starting a kung fu club there and hopefully becoming a sifu and making it a school.

So if you're interested at any point in talking about ving tsun with someone local and far more knowledgeable than I, let me know. :) Also, with both of you in the same place, it kind of makes me want to trip on up there and visit. :)

Actually I would really like that. After talking with you and watching you practice form I was thinking about pursuing that eventually if I could ever find a teacher. I was intending to see if there was anyone in the area. The focus on hand techniques fits with me well and compliments my other training, and the form doesn't seem to require a great expanse of territory to practice which has always been a problem with my practicing forms. No space to work them at home.

This officially makes you even more awesome than previously assessed, btw :)

Yeaaaah, I wasn't at my best on the sand by any means, but I imagine you got the general idea.

I'll do that friends-rec thing on facebook so you can message him about it.
