I am officially done with inkjet printers. The last lexmark I bought, mind you from a going out of biz sale so it was only $40, cost me $55 to replace the ink. On a cost basis analysis, I'm spending between $.50 and $1.00 per page to print, as they don't last all that long ( Read more... )

Another way to lower costs for ink is to see if you have any local placs which do refills. We have one called Cartridge World where we hand in our old one and they give us one which I believe they have refilled themselves. Black ink is $12.90 incl tax and it seems to last for a least a month and a half or so. Longer life on the color ones since we do less color printing, and they're about $9. The printer we have at the yoga studio is an Epson printer/scanner/copier, but this place has all different kinds of ink and toner. Good times!

I should add that those ink prices are significantly less than say Staples or Office Max which charge somewhere around $20 or more for the same black ink.

Tried that, actually. Can't refill lexmark. They have a chip in them. All the more reason to chuck it.

Dude major wtf. That's just blatantly wasteful of the company :-/
Three cheers for your new arrangement!

when you work out which is best- tell me what printer to buy- I need to get one for home use (preferably that I can just hook up to a usb port to print variously from netbook and/or desktop) but can't be bothered to do the research so haven't gotten 'round to replacing my dead printer
