Ok, so at the Humane Society, I've got a cat. (ok, ok, as of leaving, I had 23) Anyway, this cat, he's big, he's not afraid of showing that he's not happy about stuff. Mostly like kids. Wait…are you obliged to give over an animal into what will, in your judgement, be an unsuitable home?

Is there anyway you can get the cat declared an "office animal" or something, IOW unadoptable, without the risk of one day having him put down? I'd be hiding himself in a back room somewhere, I think.

with our 'office animals' with one exception, we are TRYING to get them adopted...Nope, can't let this cat roam about, he WILL hurt someone. So far, though, he's still there.

Why can't you refuse to let the man adopt that particular cat? It obviously won't work out and they will probably bring the cat back yet again. That is cruel to the cat and stressful to him and you. I would simply tell the man that this cat is not suitable for him and let him pick another one or go to another shelter to find one.

On the bright side....guy did NOT adopt cat. (hoping he talked to his wife...and SHE should put HER foot down on a cat that is known to attack kids) We do have someone who wants a barn cat. I'm hoping they come back to get him. Well...him OR the other cat I have slated for 'barn cat' On bright news...our elderly cat may just have a home as a 'therapy' cat at a rehabilitation center. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.
