Taken from the introduction to The Alchemist:

We all need to be aware of our personal calling. What is a personal calling? It is a blessing, it is the path for you while you walk this Earth. Whenever we do something that fills us with enthusiasm, we are following our legend. However, we don't all have the courage to confront our own ( Read more... )

I make no effort to hide that the fact I burned out of the Goth scene long ago.
I'll tell you what, I am having way more fun going to raves and spinning drum & bass in my bedroom at 31 than I ever did at 21 and in the goth scene.

I "almost" feel like I wasted and missed out on a big part of my 20s..."almost"

Goth, I am not burnt out on.
Scene, I am.

Scene of anything, really.

Its all about leading and following.... I'd rather just dance to my own drum.

And speaking of drum and bass.... What variety have you been spinning?
Dubstep is AMAZINGLY popular here in Dallas right now. There's a DnB night in Denton that I occasionally go to when school is in session. The girl DJ resident there has been pining to have me out for a guest slot spin an electropunk set, but it hasn't happened yet.

All life changing plans require "sacrifices" as someone would put it, or simply change of attitude and arrangement of priorities, as I would say. You have done so much and so well so far, I think you should be proud and avoid altogether the cancerous losers who do not understand the word "committment" to a dream that becomes slowly and steadily reality.

I agree with you hands down.

The biggest threat lies not in the people who make an obvious lack of support. It comes from the people who claim support until it interferes with what they imagine things are like.

I know you know (probably better than myself) how much time is invested in such pursuits, and how insanely crazy a schedule can get. I'm sure you're also aware that not everyone is always so understanding.

I have noticed, though... 90% of the people who get pissed off at me over how I spend my time DON'T have a college degree.

The moment I hear someone bitterly referring to having to "accommodate my schedule" I know that they just don't get it.

Beautiful post lady. The fist part actually made me really sad as I think of the dreams I let escape from me. But thats another story.

I have a few things to say and I'll try not to write a novel.

I know how it feels to let go of a scene. It leaves you somewhat feeling like you don't belong anywhere. This is a shitty feeling but its part of changing and growing. And whats the point of life if you don't do that? A time comes in everyones lives where they have to break out of the comfort zone and do whats right for you. This takes an incredible amount of courage and self confidence.

Think of it this way - you are dropping unsupportive people and replacing them with people who actually understand and your mission. You've already conquered the goth scene anyway yanno. Now you can go on in life and conquer something else :)

You can't make room for new things in life if you keep the old stuff hanging around.

*strong hugs*

And I might note that a 3 year step back has definitely allowed me to see the negative effects it has on our behaviors. The more time passes, the more obvious it becomes to me.

>>There are still people out there that don't seem to recognize change in me, though. Not just with what I do musically, but who I am at large. Maybe its a sign of their own stagnancy?

My parents do this to me a lot it seems. How about you? Or is it mostly your peers?

>>I'm down with darkness as much as the rest of us, but I choose no longer to wallow in it and only it.

Sounds like you've grown up.... EDIT. Sounds like you've grown OUT of that phase of your life and moved onto another path of enlightenment. You can only learn so much from one thing. Just take what you can from it and apply it else where.

I mean, thats what it sounds like youre doing.
