Supper Club IV: Leg of Lamb

Feb 27, 2012 20:33

It took 21 months, but on February 18 I hosted Supper Club again. This time around I didn't not have a specific unifying theme for my culinary experiments. Instead, it was basically an excuse to make a leg of lamb. As the song goes

Life's like a lamb
With someone there to lend a hand

but this time around I did most of the work myself. All of my fourteen attendees offered to help with prep, but with the exception of some assistance plating the main course and a small amount of help moving appetizers around I took care of everything. It actually went staggeringly well, as these witnesses can attest:

gieves & darlox
Carol & John
Alex & Cynthia
butterandjelly and Anil
katspaw156 and 1em
ayb2 and Brent
indy_was_here & stampinmak

After seven hours of cooking on Saturday and a few more the prior Thursday, the attendees were able to enjoy the following courses:

First Dessert:
Whipped Marscarpone with Fresh Berries

Appetizers:
Peppered Pancetta-Wrapped Shrimp
Mushrooms Stuffed with Walnuts & Tomatoes
Potato Gnocchi

Entrée & Sides:
Seven-Hour Leg of Lamb
Creamy White Beans
Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Second Dessert & Beverages:
butterandjelly's Birthday Extravaganza!
Goose Island Sofie Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale
Saranac Root Beer

Timeline and Assorted Notes

I'm pretty sure that everyone who attended felt they had their $19 worth of food. As evidence, I give you the leftovers. Or I would, if there had been any. A decent amount of beans remained at the end of the night, and there was a small container of gnocchi (barely enough for a lunch), but that was about it. Everything else was devoured.

I'd like to thank gieves for bringing over folding chairs and spare steak knives. As it turned out, we didn't actually need the knives because the lamb was perfectly done, but it didn't hurt to have them. Mad props also to tigerlily_blue for her assistance testing the Seven-Hour Leg of Lamb and Creamy White Beans. My sister also suggested the Whipped Marscapone recipe. fadat came through with the gnocchi recipe, and Susan helped me make some modifications to the Peppered Pancetta-Wrapped Shrimp that took it to the next level.

If all goes according to plan, recipes will follow in the next few days. I know you can't wait.
