I'm fairly certain 100 posts is more than I've done in most of the 10+ individual years I've been on LJ, but somehow I've now posted 100 straight days. Allow me to repost a video from
seven years ago.

I didn't intend to start 2014 by posting for 100 straight days. It wasn't until I was 2/3 of the way through January with plenty of Supper Club posts to come that I thought perhaps I could post for a solid month, which I had done before once previously a few years ago. Then once I made it through a long weekend in Philadelphia with the help of the "post in advance" feature. I thought I could get through February. March had the CIFF posts, and now here I am.
Observations:
- Despite some of the rather trivial seeming posts that I wrote during this streak I still have plenty of things in my "I really should post about that" list, some of which have been percolating for years. Mostly, those are just harder to write.
- I could never have done this without "post in advance". Between travel or just late nights out there are just too many times when the streak would have ended due to lack of time. Still, I never had more than three posts saved in advance at any one time. The closest the streak came to breaking was during the Film Festival when I spent all day at work and all night at movies.
- I hesitate to call blogging hard work, but it's certainly a commitment. I have new respect for some of my favorite bloggers who are putting up 3-4 posts a day. Sure, blogging is their full time job, but turning out one well researched insightful post for a large and potentially hostile audience (something I do not have nor do I aspire to) is pretty impressive. Doing that multiple times a day seems crazy to me even now.
- Although I not do this for readers, I can't help but notice that trivial one line posts from 10 years ago frequently got double-digit comments, whereas the entire series of 100 posts now barely cleared 50 comments. Heck, when I
got engaged I had more comments on that one post than I've had in 2014, which is by far the most prolific year of posting I've had. If you leave
tigerlily_blue's comments and my responses to her out of it, it's more like 20 comments. LJ is definitely dying, with only a few
die hards still here. Such is life. I should probably have a backup option in place in case LJ dies for real.
I'm probably not going to push this much further. Posting does eat up a lot of time, and I have stayed up late some nights preparing the post for the next day when I should have been sleeping. So at some point, possibly this weekend, the streak will end. However, I will still be here on LJ. In fact, I have come up with a good idea for a new series, which I will hopefully be starting later in April.
Thank you to everyone who reads this, and more importantly to those of you who still post regularly or even occasionally and make LJ a fun place to be ten years on.
