So
last year my annual health screening came back with my blood sugar in the pre-diabetic range for the sixth straight year. I was already doing
CrossFit and
biking, so I added a
resolution to further reduce the amount of sugar I ate at work. Since that's the main place I ate sugar, this seemed like a good call.
As previously documented, this year I've
crush my goal of eating less junk food at work, and I kept up the exercise at the same level or higher as last year. So what happened when I got my health screening? For the seventh straight year, my blood sugar was in the pre-diabetic range, and worse it was at easily its highest point ever; I nearly crossed over into the "probably have diabetes" zone.
At this point I was advised to take an A1C test to screen for diabetes, which looks at the last three months instead of the last 12 hours. I did... and naturally I get completely normal results. In fact, they were really good, or so I was told. So, I do not have diabetes, and am now more cynical about tests. It helps that I don't have any other symptoms at all.
In other good news, my good cholesterol went up, so fish oil is apparently helping. All other numbers were good.
