Yoga

When I posted my "get smaller" resolution, I mentioned that it would be harder for me to exercise more given the recovery time needed. It turns out that I was wrong about that. My office has a fitness center with lots of scheduled classes that I had never previously taken advantage of. I checked the schedule on a whim and it turns out that there's a yoga class right after work on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which are the days I don't do CrossFit. As a bonus, they're usually taught my friend and occasional fellow concert goer Colleen. I've been going for the last month or so.

I don't think yoga would be enough if it was my primary workout, but as an auxiliary workout it is every nice. I can work on flexibility and balance and approach the strength aspect from a different angle. I also now spend more time than I ever expected on breathing. Some days I work up a sweat, some days I don't, but even a little bit of a workout is enough to keep my metabolism firing more than it would otherwise. All this and it's free through work, which is nice. Recovery has thus far not been a problem.

With CrossFit, I make every effort to schedule around it because it's my primary workout. For yoga, I am more willing to miss one if something comes up since it's only my secondary workout. When bike season starts (which could be any day now given this weather) it will conflict with yoga since I'd get home later than Tulip would be comfortable with, so this may be a cold weather / precipitation only workout. Still, it's nice to have an additional enjoyable option.
