Last Weekend for May 25-27 with Bonus Memorial Day Action

May 31, 2018 23:11

Friday was the day I chose for our annual Employee Appreciation Day, which has morphed from being "Cedar Point Day" to "Do Whatever You Want Day" to "Thinly Veiled Excuse to Give Everybody at least a Four Day Weekend for Memorial Day". No complaints here. I basically got all my Saturday errands done on Friday, and added in such activities as "mowing the lawn" and "buying a dehumidifier for my basement". After a pleasant dinner, M and I watched the end of the basketball game at Deagan's.

On Saturday M headed back to Columbus to attend a friend's BBQ and visit family. I also visited family; after hitting the gym I picked up my aunt and we had lunch at Flipside in Chagrin Falls. It's a chain, but their burgers are fantastic. Their air conditioning was also fantastic, as Saturday was the first truly hot day of the summer, with temperatures in the 90s. In addition to my burger, I splurged and had a milk shake with lunch and a small cone at Jeni's after.

Saturday night I played poker with some heavy metal reprobates from the radio station. There's a monthly game which I try to get to whenever possible. On a $2.00 buy in I left with $2.25. Many snacks were eaten.

Sunday, Tulip let me sleep in all the way to 8:30, which was nice of her. I did what I thought was a really fun radio show. I then had dinner with my good friend rishu73, who recently moved back into town after a decade away. He and I caught up at Paladar. I really enjoyed the food there (ropa vieja this time), but the service was distinctly subpar.

From there, I futzed around the rest of the evening. It's probably the closest I've truly come to doing nothing for quite some time, if by nothing you mean reading all of Questionable Content that wasn't in the first six books I acquired.

On Monday morning I donated platelets for the seventh time this year - the burger and the ropa vieja must have helped my iron! While doing so I knocked off Deadeye Dick by Kurt Vonnegut, which I had acquired at Ferret's Oscar Party. It was fun but somewhat disposable, not on par with most other Vonnegut that I've read.

Tangentially, the other book I read this weekend was also picked up at the Oscar party; it was an Outland collection called One Last Little Peek. It's always fun to visit the Bloom County gang again.

Anyway, Monday afternoon I had my tribe tickets, so Emily and I caught the 4:10 game against the White Sox. It was very hot and the sun was in our faces, but the Tribe rallied back from an early deficit to win convincingly. Also, I had more ice cream.
