On Friday night, M and I had dinner in then took advantage of the comparatively balmy December weather and took an evening walk down to the lake. From there we wandered back to
Deagan's for a nightcap.
Saturday was equally slow paced until the evening. Then we drove over to Chagrin Falls to attend a intimate birthday party for
rishu73. As his wife Gaela is probably the best chef I am personally acquainted with, this was exciting for both friendship and culinary reasons. We had a delicious meal and played
Cards Against Humanity with them and Faith and her fiance until late in the evening. We got home so late, in fact, that I rescheduled my appointment to give blood on Sunday morning.
Sunday was, alas, not as upbeat. After hosting my show
solo for the first time in many weeks, I then subbed
Beyond The Pale after me. Unfortunately, I was subbing it because my friend Roger Weist, who had followed me for nearly all of
my sixteen years on Sundays, had died of a heart attack on Thursday night. He was 66, and will be
dearly missed. I pulled out my favorite Irish Celtic music
for him.
I ended up going to the visiting hours on Monday after work, and I was staggered when one of Roger's favorite sisters (he had a LOT of favorite sisters) recognized me by my voice and said "you were doing Roger's show on Sunday" and then gave me a long hug. Apparently the family listened to my show while gathering the photos for the montage that was played on loop at the wake. I was not expecting that at all. They said they liked it, and that it helped. And I have nothing else useful to say about that.
