You Are What You Eat: June 20 through June 27

Jun 27, 2019 22:41

We're coming up fast on the half year mark. Let's get to it.

Thursday, June 20 - The East Coast Custard truck came to work. I stood in the rain to get cookies and cream custard. It was very worth it.

That night I made Zesty Shrimp & Black Bean Salad from Eating Well for the second time this year. I still haven't worked my way through all the Lenten sale shrimp.

Friday, June 21 - After going to a gallery opening, M and I ended up at Battery Park Pub for dinner. They apologized because they were understaffed, but the nachos I had were very good and the patio was comfortable as the longest day of the year came to a close.

Saturday, June 22 - I more or less ate leftovers. I mean, there weren't really leftovers so much as grazing off things in the house for dinner, but close enough.

Sunday, June 23 - G and Eli (formerly rishu73 came down and did radio with me. Afterwards we went to the Jolly Scholar on campus. They had beer, I had a milkshake. I'd never actually been here, and I can say that I sure wish it had been on campus when I was a student.

When I got home I made Roasted Chicken & Vegetable Quinoa Salad from the September/October 2015 Eating Well. M enjoys the fennel flavor, and it fed us quite handily with some for lunch the next day.

Monday, June 24 - We used the air fryer to improvise some beet chips. M really loves beets. We need to cut them slightly thinner next time, but they were otherwise quite nice.

The beet chips accompanied the Fritada de Espinaca from the Moosewood Restaurant Favorites for the second time this year. M also likes baked eggs.

That night I put together the Mango Lassi Pie from the May/June 2017 Eating Well, but we didn't eat it until Thursday.

Tuesday, June 25 - I was off to the Tribe game, which meant another beer at Great Lakes and a pop at the game.

Then I got home and made a new recipe from the Moosewood Favorites so we'd have lunches for the next day. we had the Rice Salad w/Herbs and Vegetables. It was very good, and in the future I may use it to use up leftover vegetables, since I almost always have rice and this basically works with almost any vegi. I had actually made the rice on Tuesday night when I got home from the game, so it was super quick to put together. We got several days of lunches out of this.

Wednesday, June 26 - My friend Meredith was in town, so M and I met her at Phnom Penh for dinner, and then we had a beer and I had a dessert at Great Lakes. It wasn't my night; between the two places I ordered tried to order three things that weren't available that night.

Thursday, June 27 - I had lunch in the Bistro at work, and then for dinner I made Salsa-black Bean Burgers from the January/February 2017 Eating Well. It's only the second or third time I've made them ever (first this year), and they didn't hold together quite as well as previous iterations. I made to add more eggs.

We also started the Mango Lassi pie, which was delicious.
