You Are What You Eat: January 20 through January 29

Feb 22, 2020 17:09

The last month has been hectic, but I do have reasonably good notes, so here we go.

[1] I ate out twice.
- We had one WRUW drinking night with a great many people, include EdZ, Colleen & Kelly, gieves, Lazybones, Rich & Jackie, Smuggler, TNick, Isaac and Gretchen. It was my first time at Saucy Brew Works. We shared some sheet pizzas. I had some mac & cheese. We had a good time. I'm not sure I'd rush back, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to returning.
- gieves, M and I met at Nighttown for the Badi Assad concert. We were seated on the patio (first gig I've seen there) right up in the front. I could have reached out and hit Badi. As always, the food at Nighttown is good but nothing earth shaking. This is a full meal, so it is not covered by the "concert drinks" exception.

Both of these had friends, so my resolution continues successfully.

[2] I made six new recipe, all from the January/February 2020 Eating Well. That brings the total for the year to eleven.

- Moroccan Chicken Tagine with Apricots & Olives - I don't actually have a tagine, but the end result was quite flavorful. M enjoyed it.
- Slow Cooker Potato Soup (Taco Variant). The base soup is a little bland, but the taco toppings (pico de gallo, sour cream, etc) were nice. I might make it again in the winter because it was easy and filling and made a lot.
- Vegetable Bourguignon - This tasted good and we both liked it, but it also required significant effort. I have a mushroom bourguignon recipe that I make frequently that is just as good and about a 1/3 of the work, so I don't see this one cracking my rotation.
- Salmon with Roasted Red Pepper Quinoa Salad - The salmon was pretty standard. The quinoa salad was average. I don't think this one will turn up again.
- Chicken Kurma (Traditional Chicken Curry) - This was a pleasant enough chicken curry. I have a lot of curry recipes, and this one wasn't really anything special, so I'm pretty sure this one won't turn up again.
- Afghan Vegetable & Chickpea Soup (Tarkari) - This ended up being pretty basic. Nothing wrong with it, but not worth making again when I have so many other soup recipes.
