It looks like we won't be outing for a while due to
coronavirus, which means I'm actually going to get through a weekend without eating out, more or less. Hey, take any bright side you can get.
[1] I ate out twice.
- Carol & John & M and I had dinner at
Georgetown prior to the
orchestra concert. This is one of the comparatively few restaurants in Lakewood I hadn't been to, although I'd been to its predecessor
Three Birds many years ago. Honestly, I wasn't much impressed with my food - the chicken scallopini was pretty meh. I did enjoy my bowl of chowder and the truffle fries we split, but everybody else in my group liked their meals a lot more. I did have ice cream for dessert. With that said, the patio looked amazing, so we might try that in the summer.
- On Thursday I had to give some blood for diagnostic purposes (nothing serious) so I had to fast for 12 hours. This meant breakfast was one of M's frozen burritos at work, which turned out to not be something I enjoyed. I was still hungry, and bought some pasta to supplement my lunch.

[2] I made seven new recipes, bringing the yearly total to 24.
- M found the
Tangy Hot Cabbage Slaw recipe on the Weight Watchers site. She's a big slaw fan, me less so, so I mostly made this for her to take for lunch. It was somewhat less hot because I had accidentally used up all the jalapenos earlier in the week, but M still happily took it for lunch for most of a week. If she wants it again, I'll certainly make it.
- The March 2020 Eating Well offered up the
Savory Dutch Boy with Arugula Paremsan. It was fine, nothing fantastic, and didn't make much to boot. I probably won't make it again.
- The January/February 2020 Eating Well gave us
Cauliflower Chicken Nachos, which basically were nachos with cauliflower instead of chips. We both like nachos and tacos, and we definitely really liked this. It will be made again.
- I knocked off two more of the vanishing supply of untried recipes from
Moosewood Favorites. The Thai Butternut Squash Soup was very pleasant. I'll add more spinach next time, but M's enthusiastic response to this recipe guarantees it'll come back at least one more time.
- The other
Moosewood Favorites recipe was a lentil dhal. It was in the "that's fine" category; I've got better dhal recipes so this probably won't come up again.
- The January 2020 Eating Well had this
Feta, Kale & Pear Salad which was a two thumbs up victory. To the extent that there was a problem it was that the leftovers weren't quite as crisp the next day. I thought it hit on all cylinders, and it might turn up for company at some point.
- M found another recipe from Weight Watchers, the
Bell Peppers with Chickpea Mash, Eggs and Harissa. She didn't care for the semi-cooked egg, which was integral to the recipe, and the filling was similar to another stuffed pepper recipe I make, so this won't be repeated.

As it happens, my 2019 edition had an increment end on
March 13 so I can do a side-by-side comparison to see if I'm improving.
I've made 24 new recipes in 2020 versus 30 in 2019.
I've eaten out 28 times + 5 drinks/desserts in 2020 versus 24 and 7 in 2019. Of course, I also traveled for 11 nights in 2020 versus 3 in 2019, so if you account for that it appears I improved.
