It's been
24 days since my last post, which at a casual glance through my archive appears to the longest gap since the 36 day gap in August & September
2015 when I went to Europe
for more than a month with essentially no internet, back in my pre-smart phone youth. I didn't go through my entire archive, but that actually appears to be the longest single gap in my long history on this platform.
I assure you that I have not run out of topics. I have a piece of paper with a long list of potential topics, both one-offs and series. It's more than enough to last for a solid year or more of posts if I went through with all of them.
However, I have temporarily run out of free time. M and I are pleased to report that as of mid-January we now have a daughter. Since our daughter may not in the future appreciate having her legal name all over an unlocked journal, I shall be referring to her as Birdie going forward. I mean, it's not like M is her real name either, right?
Birdie is doing great. M has felt better but is recovering, albeit not as quickly as she might like. Tulip is mostly mystified by the changes in our routine but isn't particularly upset by a crying baby, given that she's functionally deaf.
As for myself, I feel pretty good. I took two weeks of parental leave plus a few days of PTO and went back to work at the end of January. Since I'm still
working from home right now, this pragmatically means that I can come help with Birdie most any time I'm needed. This is good, because with the pandemic, our (as of yet) unvaccinated parents, and our repeated touchpoints with medical professions, nobody is allowed at our house for a while. It's just the two of us to wrangle one dog and one baby, which isn't ideal but we've made it work thus far.
So anyway, that's what's going on here. This journal is NOT abandoned, just deprioritized for awhile.
