On Friday, we took Birdie to visit my parents in western Pennsylvania. This added several new items to her resume:
- Her second state after Ohio is Pennsylvania, entered on October 29, 2021.
- Her seventh building. After our
trip to Columbus, which added a AirBNB and a screened porch for buildings four and five, we had M's parents up
a few weeks back and for part of their trip we got them an AirBNB in near ou house that had a walk-in shower, which was easier for M's father than our tub. That was building six. My parents house was building seven. Have I mentioned that having a baby during a pandemic is weird?
- Her first extended off-road stroller walk. On Saturday, we went to Preston Park for an afternoon, which has unpaved trails ranging from grass to dirt/rock/tree branches. Our fancy stroller handled all comers easily.
- Her new
farthest east point. I didn't pay close attention to where exactly was the easternmost point, so we'll just say my parents house and make it easy.
It was a fun weekend. Birdie enjoyed crawling all around my parents first floor. She also enjoyed playing with my parents, particularly my mother's "grandma" voice, which my mother totally denies having. Birdie also had a milestone of sorts when it comes to food. Although we've been feeding her teething crackers for a few weeks, this weekend marked the first time that she really figured them out and started biting into them with enthusiasm instead of just sort of randomly gumming them. The difference might be subtle, but it was obvious to us.
Besides playing with Birdie, we went on some walks around my parents neighborhood. I read the
Terry Pratchett Nation which my father owned that I hadn't gotten to previously. We also went through the box of books my father was ready to get rid of and took some with us. We ate my mother's food in quantity, and generally relaxed.
We didn't do any trick or treating or other Halloween activities during our visit, but on the Thursday before we left M did take some pictures of Birdie with in two different costumes. Both her pumpkin costume her ghost costume were hand made by M and are adorable, particularly the little pumpkin stem hat. She was posed between two jack-o-lanterns, one with a bird on it and another embellished with "Birdie's First Halloween." Have I mentioned that M loves Halloween? M loves Halloween.
