Birdie had her nine month check up yesterday, and everything was great. She weighed in at 19 pounds 4 ounces (70th percentile) and was 28 inches long (about 60th percentile). Other than a tiny amount of baby eczema on the top of her feet and a small patch on her leg, she appears to be in perfect health. She also got her flu shot, which she was less than thrilled about. She has to get a flu booster next month, and I predict she will be less than thrilled about that as well.
This was our third pediatrician visit in less than three weeks, and was more fun than the other two. After
Birdie's first sick day she had another milder sick day on September 28 with a fever that was just high enough that pediatrician had us bring her in. Inspection found nothing but that fever, which was presumed by the pediatrician to be due to teething since she never developed a rash or anything else. This fever stuck around for a few days, kept in check by alternating doses of Baby Motrin and Baby Tylenol until whatever the problem was went away. Unlike her first sick day, she didn't vomit on anybody and slept pretty solidly.
Speaking of teething, Birdie now has six teeth, having gone from
two in June to
four in late July to six in late September. She now has four on the bottom of her mouth and two on the top, and every indication is that she'll have even more teeth in the near future.
However, the biggest milestone is that last week Birdie has started crawling. M's parents came up for a Friday-Wednesday visit starting on October 1 and by the end of the trip Birdie was crawling across
baby jail. Somewhat hilariously, the item that induced her to movement was a
dreidel, as M had noted that Birdie liked watching things spin and grabbed the only actual top we had on hand. Since then she's become more and more mobile, and not just at moving around. Now that she realizes she can go get things, she's reaching up and for toys on the assumption that she can get them, somehow. It's really fun to watch.
Actually, pretty much all of this is really fun to watch. And exhausting.
