We've had good weather here in northeast Ohio the last two weekends, so we had a bunch of outdoor adventures. Of note:
- Two Saturdays ago, we went to Birdie's first organized religious event. Well, semi-organized. The congregation that my cousin Allison (who
officiated our wedding) had a kid oriented event in a local park with a bunch of singing and silliness, so we went to that. Birdie had a good time, and it turned out that one of the other attendees used to work with M so we now know more people there than just my cousin. Afterwards my cousin joined us with takeout from
Corky and Lenny's. It was very nice.
Not really germane to the event itself, but this was the first time I used the new "Opportunity Corridor" that hooks up to I-490 where it used to cross East 55th. This makes getting from the west side to Cleveland Heights / Shaker Square and the like dramatically faster. I'm going to have to reevaluate almost all of my known routes now that it exists. The park we met at would previously have been 45 minutes from our house, and now it's like 25 minutes. I thought the mapping application was broken when I first punched in the address. Too bad this wasn't there when I lived in Cleveland Heights and worked in Westlake, I might never have moved to the west side!
- Aside from synagogue event, I was at the ballpark pretty much all of that weekend because the Oakland A's were in town to play the Guardians. I went to games Friday night, Saturday late afternoon and Sunday morning with EJ, Brandt and Shari, respectively. The A's started strong with 8 shutout innings on Friday, then got walked off in the 9th. The A's somehow won on Saturday to break a ten game losing streak, then lost again on Monday to start a new losing streak. Still, a bad day at the ballpark is better than a good day elsewhere, although the A's look historically bad this season so they tested that theory.
- This past Sunday morning, we went out to Penitentiary Glen for a short stroller-friendly hike in the woods along the top of the gorge. This was followed by a lot of time in their extensive "nature playground." Birdie enjoyed collecting pine cones, and attempted to enjoy eating them. She also spent a lot of time getting into and out of a chair and explored a tunnel.
- Sunday afternoon we picked up Middle Eastern takeout from
Assad's and brought it over to M's friend Beth's house. Birdie really enjoyed roaming all over Beth's fenced backyard while we ate. She also went to town with a garden trowel and wandered around with a broom for a while, because why not?
