One of my daughter's favorite hobbies right now is plopping. Plopping is what she calls throwing rocks and sticks into bodies of water. The bodies of water in question range from puddles to small streams to
marshes to Lake Erie to the
Atlantic Ocean. Basically every visit to any body of water has to involve at least some plopping.
An integral part of the entire plopping procedure is having good materials to throw into the water. Birdie has been known to find particularly good "plopping" rocks and hand them off to either M or I for safekeeping until we arrive at a good plopping location. In most scenarios she will do the plopping herself, but in cases she will outsource the work to M. This was particularly true at the beach in Hilton Head. Birdie was consistently worried by the ocean waves and preferred to have M do the plopping for her, or in some cases to have M hold her so she could plop without being in the water herself.
Birdie did some quality plopping on Saturday when we took advantage of the nice weather and went out to
Old Woman Creek. We found a nice little bridge over some open water and she quite happily tossed in an assortment of stones and branches. The water was moving fast enough that we also got to demonstrate a little
Poohsticks for Birdie's entertainment.
Just to be clear, plopping is distinct from
Flopping, which Birdie also loves. She'll stand on the sofa and heedlessly toss herself forward on to the cushions, or on to us if we happen to be sitting on the sofa. She'll also happily jump up in the air and land on her butt on the sofa.
