Last summer, Birdie was into
Gene Kelly and a Chorus Line. In December, she was very much into Abba. Specifically, Dancing Queen:

Birdie requested that movie repeatedly during our drive to and from my sister's house in Atlanta for New Year's Eve. We think Birdie liked the video because at the end Meryl Streep and company jump into the water, and anything relating to jumping into the water remains a big hit with Birdie. However, she also likes the song sans video, or at least enough to run around our house and my sister's house singing Dancing Queen repeatedly, past the point of cuteness.
The "jumping into the water" aspect made M think to show Birdie
Esther Williams videos, so in the last few weeks several Esther Williams videos have become required bedtime viewing, most notably this one:

Esther Williams may be the most unique actress in Hollywood history. Basically every swimming/dancing sequence in history will be compared to her forever. Weird. Birdie's interest in Esther has led us to Olympic diving and synchronized swimming videos.
On a final "jumping into the water" note, a few weeks back at the library Birdie asked the librarian for "books where people jump into the water." The librarian was clearly pleased to be handed such an unusual query and came back with a large pile of swimming-themed books for Birdie's entertainment. Librarians are great.
