Not the first-ever caucus in Kansas

Local reporting on the Democratic caucus said it was the first-ever caucus in Kansas. There was an interview with an Obama person who said so, and the Kansas City star said it, too. It was the third one I've participated in. Maybe I've just lost my grip on reality.

they way my mom was talking it sounded like she hadn't ever gone to one before. maybe they just weren't organized enuf in that part of the state?

i'd be very worried if you lost your grip on reality!

I think it's that the race is usually over before we caucus here, so this time we moved ours up so we could feel more a part of the process. Being a part of Super Tuesday caused the campaigns to actually pay attention to our state and mobilize the voters to get out to the caucus. See also my reply to Triadruid. I've been getting worried about my grip lately.

Notice that the 2nd paragraph says "the last competitive caucuses were in 1988" and the GOP party official says "last time we had a caucus was 20 years ago." The first statement may be the correct one, but I can only speak for what I experienced in the Democratic caucuses. Most of the time the race is basically over before the Kansas Democratic caucus is scheduled to begin, so there's not much interest. In 2004 there were probably less than 75 people who showed up in my district at the 1st level of the process. The last one before that I attended was in 1988 in Lawrence ( ... )
