morning kills the dark (but it won't be gone)

the family pet hamster died yesterday.
it was already dead in its pretty green plastic cage, lying there all thin and frail
in the process of decomposing, the flies feasting on its flesh and the ants on to
its half-nibbled chocolate snack which my sister bought for it just last week.

and i came home early this morning completely wasted from a night out

yeah you're right. but pets are like dependent on you, so when they die and all, can't help but feel responsible :/ and it's the first time i'm actually face to face with death, albeit it's an animal. just hits you.
