OK - so here's a canvassing of opinions.

I know I like this thing. I have wanted it for three years, and it still seems like a good idea. I'm likely going to get it done in the next week or two. I would, however, like to ask others of their opinions on the design (one of my own making - terribly pretentious and loaded with layers of symbology. I love it ( Read more... )

semantic overloading, opinion canvassing, body mods

Can I ask what this is representative of and what is its significance to you?

ok - here we go.

1) it's the london underground symbol
2) lunar symbology
3) islamic symbology (in particular in red, which relates to personal gnosis within islam)
4) pictish lunar symbology - the line across the middle is writing in ogham, and reads Lún Dún - the city of the moon - the first recorded name for London.
5) red star - carries into my own personal form of socialism (can be best expressed as "not going to work now, but it will someday")

And - yeah. London, to a great extent, is where I have begun to turn into a useful, grown-up human being, and pictish thing is bercause of my mother's side, and islamic thing is because of where I grew up.

Told you it was pretentious.

My initial thoughts were that it is fairly Islamic. Just out of curiousity, is this intentional?

Mine too, I'm afraid to say it does slightly scream "suicide bomber" at me, but then I do know you like that kind of symbology (Arabic/Islamic, not suicide-bomber), so I doubt you'll be put off by my random thoughts. Are you going to get it done in colour or just black? How large (I'd recommend not too big, an inch or two at most), and I would suggest it be someplace thats normally covered by clothing. While you'll hopefully never be ashamed of it or want to hide it from friends, there might be times when you want it out of obvious sight (boarding a plane, for example :p ), or it clashes with the theme of an outfit you're wearing or something. Back of the shoulder seems good to me, assuming you're not planning on wearing any off the shoulder dresses. Then again, somehow I suspect that you would look out of place enough in an off the shoulder dress anyway and the tat would be the least of your worries then hehe (No offence to any ts/tv's intended, I just really can't imagine you in a dress).

Hmm...

Fortunately, I'm white. Not only does this mean I can get away with it, but it means that - if in doubt - people are more likely to search first, shoot later.

secondarily, the other option was a big fuckoff saudi crest across my back, crossed scimitars and all - everything's comparative.

On a point of interest, apparently I don't look bad in a dress.

thank you for input!

I disagree with the size recommendation... I think it'd work much better quite a bit larger than that. Not quarter-of-back territory, but you don't want it being mistake for an interesting mole or something ;)

That'd be lovely, actually. When would you be free?

And I've never had a reaction to cheap jewellery, and I've worn a fair bit, so I ought to be okay.

Yes.

Aha - well, this can be a trial by error.

Thanks for pointing that one out.

Next week ok for you any time? Am most likely going to get it done at Chrome, due to discount and the fact that Benny's shit-hot.

My only concern would be colour, yes. The shades you chose work really well together, but it might not be possible to get them exactly right on your skin. I'm sure the artist can inform you if there might be any problems, though. Good luck!

Thank you! Am hoping for a best-guess with the colours. Will let you know how it goes.
