I'm thinking of having a baby just to have something to write about. It seems like a good conversation starter, being a guarantee that things will change from one day to the next, rather than plodding in their assigned course

That's an interesting reason to have a kid. Sounds like the same reasoning that drives some people to get married. Well, if you still want one with all your heart 5 months after menopause you have 3 options. You can have your eggs frozen now, impregnated later and implanted in a surrogate, or you can adopt. Or you can get a dog or a cat or something and get over it. I think you'll do just fine as the single, no kids, let's have some fun, pistol of an Auntie to your brother's (I am speaking only in the most hypothetical sense here) uptight, overly religious, bible-thumping, oppressed/repressed mormon kids. Kids which, if that holds any water, there will be quite a few
