"All in all you're just another brick in The Wall..."

Okay, so I just had a long talk with my mom. One of our famous daily talks. It was about religion. I seem to have many conversations revolving around this subject ( Read more... )

I will admit that upon first glance, bbyo can appear to be just another way for teenagers to become one with the masses.

But it's not. there is no official exclusion from a chapter allowed, and if a girl (or guy) feels excluded, it's no different from the way an outsider in a tight-knit group of friends would feel.

In fact, there is one specific aza (male) chapter that provides a home for numerous guys that, quite frankly, wouldn't find much acceptance anyplace else (although there are several guys in this group that are not part of that generalization).

... but I liked the rest of the post.

Ya know, we always tend to stand up for whatever group we're a member of. (See my response, below, about IB.) That doesn't make it any less true.

Not negating your argument, just observing.

Well i was also including "tight-knit gorpu of friends" in my statement as well because that's actually what I've been dealing with more lately (different groups/cliches). I just personally don't feel like I can belong to any of them in particular.

Love you Ariel.

I like this.

Although I don't think I'd consider IB a cult. We don't like being in it. We're able to get out of it. Maybe we look back on it and think of it as a good experience, but other than that...

I'm sure we'll think of IB as a good experience. I mean, I, without a doubt, am positive that it definitely opens up the minds of many students in contrast to education probably anywhere else here (area where we live).
I was just sorta referring to the people mainly. In freshman year and last year I loved the people in IB. Lately, I've come to realize that they're not what I thought at all. I mean some are great, don't get me wrong. But the stuff I've heard about some..so..disappointing.

Like what?

Okay, no need for gossip. I gotcha, though, I do. And I like IB, myself. It's great. It's just sometimes odd, too.

Yeah exactly IB is great, but like always (human nature) (the same way it happens with religion, teams, organizations, sports, etc) people don't always receive from it the positive aspects. Unfortunately.

Anyways, yeah you get me and what I was trying to say.

Wow. mad props

one of the best posts ive read in months

you should send it as an essay for a scholarship contest....you'll win

and I, in the same respect, don't, discriminate against any religion....and with jews, Catholics are known to persecute jews for all history, but i can say I do the opposite...
Gus loves da jews

and about the IB comment, its very true. although im not in IB, many of my friends are, and therefore many of my classmates, because AP/IB classes are mixed(i dont have a problem with 99% of them...just those that seriously think themselves higher because of it) but i've also had to take requirements that have no IB kids(health, computers, pe) so i know both refs str8 from the boat, to the top 10% of my class. And sometimes it just gets irritating when they think they're better

funny thing, i JUST read a post from a girl in IB, her LJ is friends only so i'll just quote what she wrote:
...an FCAT drill during which, we the heirarchy, mingled with the commoners. Luckily, we did not have to speak to them, since ( ... )

haha Jews are often accused of killing Jesus himself. Of course, that's often said by people who havent really who have just been told things and they believe em. I mean hello, Roman Empire...one of the cruelest people in history.

Gus, I thought you were in IB (that you took part in the program like after AP Euro.) Anyways, Ill tell you one thing; you are definitely just as smart and smarter than many kids in IB. That's not even supposed to be a comment in reference to intelligence (which btw, you are intelligent also haha), I just mean that you show good judgement and you're open-minded.

And that girls statement..sad.

<33 love!

to clarify: the ITALIANS killed jesus, not jews
and i still havent forgiven them

In Gables, AP Euro. is an open class, and about 40% of the kids that take it are not in IB
yeah, even though im conservative in many things(especially politics), im open to all opinions, but i honestly believe that Catholicism(despite its many flaws) is the way to go; that my opinion, because i make religion a daily thing, and it truly affects me
although if you talk to Simoni(or the other girls in gables) they see me as a cocky, asshole, chauvinistic male pig who needs a good slap (but thats another story

Well I'd just say Roman Empire, since the empire itself hurt many of the people from its own nation (Italians). So yeah those cruel, Roman bastards.

AP Euro. is an open class in Reef also (any AP class, of course).

And I respect you, youre religion, and your beliefs.

And I've heard many sides to that whole "other story." =)

very interesting. I tend to have confusion towards my religion or religion in general. I just feel many times like i can't relate, and i'll sit there in temple feeling no tie or emotion to whatever prayer is coming out of my mouth. it's actually rather sad. if anything, i can relate most to buddhism (although it's a philosophy, not a religion). I like how they believe in the self, and not some divine force that will save them. I think the "self" is what it's all about.

Yeah Buddhism is definitely great in that sense, but like all other religions, it has its negative ends as well. My best friend, Simoni, along with my chemistry teacher (Ms. Barkow, shes an Indian woman, who married a Jew..Dear God, she rocks at life) are Jains (well, Barkow doesn't practice it, but she was born that). Jainism is VERY similar to Buddhism, except it's mostly followed by Indians. Basically, it deals with positive energy vs. negative energy. The two opposing forces affect you and affect the choices you make. In the end, it's all about making the right choice and yeah, like you said, the "self" (inner peace/Nirvana).

Do you still go to Beth Or? I left there when the old rabbi, Rami, left. He was so awesome. The again, what can you expect from a rabbi, who's a psychologist and plays Beatles songs on the guitar in the middle of services =). I hear the new rabbi (the woman) is great though.

You know what, Emily? You Rock. <33

nope, not there anymore. I wasn't even there for Rami, but i hear he was amazing. At that time I was a Bet Breira, and then we just randomly switched to Beth Or for about two years, and now we are back at Bet Breira. I think part of the reason we switched back is because my sister's bat mitzvah is coming up, and i guess my family felt that they were more familiar with bet breira and the rabbi there. something like that.

and thankya, you're definitely not too shabby yourself :)

Yeah, you're Indian. I mean I'm not generalizing, but most Indians will agree with me (Simoni, Nita, Natasha, even Monish); in the Indian culture, there are hundreds of religions, languages, cutoms beliefs, and they all play such a big roll in what you can or cannot do. Whether you practice/follow it to or not, it has a very high influence on what you believe in as an individual.

(most of my Indian friends, and let me tell you i know and handful and adore all of you haha, speak different languages, have different religions, and believe different things.)
