So, the University of New Mexico Slam Team did a feature at UCSC last month for their kinetics poetry project festival. We have not received payment for the gig.

Because the financial officer at UCSC did not believe I was an American. Not sure if he assumed because we have the word "Mexico" in our state name or what. Or if the confusion was only

Well, it's worked out now. I overreacted. It was a matter of files placed in the wrong basket and someone didn't check off the citizenship box.

the thing that confuses me the most, and not exactly the least racist thing about the whole ordeal, is the fact that they wouldn't pay you for a job you did for them, even though they hired you for the job, based on your supposed citizenship status. i know whenever i hire a border-jumper to perform poetry at my huge weekend-long poetry festival, i at least give them a few 50 cent pieces.
