peak oil, privileged environmentalists and self-applause: Escape From Suburbia?

May 12, 2008 00:29

We watched Better than Chocolate tonight, which has always been a really sweet movie. Jimmy liked it, too. I like lesbian films way more than gay guy ones.

THEN, we bought this atrocious film called Escape from Suburbia. What a piece of crap. It was utterly tedious to watch the profiled folks drone on and on with all their wonderful ideas ( Read more... )

Oil/energy isn't the problem.. the market produces alternatives, and with technologies coming on line over the next number of years, energy itself will become cheaper.

The big problem is the fall in value of real estate combined with the inability for the consumer to finance additional debt, because it has been financed in the past through equity in real estate, equity which has vanished. In other words: people used to living beyond their means must now do so, and pay off massive debt besides. Of course, they can't, which is a real problem... one side effect though: demand for energy will be reduced, which will lower (somewhat) energy prices.

I agree, we're headed for a crash. It's not going to be pretty, and it's in the process of happening right now.

What you said. Trendy privileged classist "green" is really not what the world needs.

I like lesbian films way more than gay guy ones

...there are good films in either category??? Not that I've seen a lot, but I think my favorite queer flick so far must be "Love! Valour! Compassion!" Possibly tied with Desert Hearts. I wanted to love "Fire" but I just couldn't. It wasn't bad, just shallower or something than I expected. Picky, picky.

Speaking of priviledged classes like women for example.

I am sure you understand that there is no one identified as male on the lesbian feminist group any_bodied_men. I feel sorry for you. I always liked you. I feel sorry that who you are is not percieved in such a lesbian feminist group. They generally do not percieve the sensitivity or understanding of men. I have been nearly beaten to death by them in highschool simply because I was a soft guy. Dykes hate that shit. Women are sexist and oppressive towards men. Yep. You will eventually face that truth.

That Veggie van Gogh guy makes me want to twitch. It's so... infantile. He reminds me of the Wrathful Nerds in high school who survived purely on the thought, "in twenty years, I'll be my bullies' CEO and I'll control their wages and then they'll know I was RIGHT ALL ALONG!"
