If you had to live the rest of your life on an over-the-counter pain reliever (taking the maximum dose allowed on the bottle), which would you choose and why?

Advil. Or generic Ibeuprofin. But then, that's the only pain reliever I've ever felt /do/ anything for me.

It's tough on tummies, but almost all pain relievers are.

Hrm... maybe I should say 'aspirin' instead. It's side effects are less, and it's supposed to be good for your heart.

Ah, but this isn't about what you /should/ take, but what you would take.

Being that I already have to take almost daily advil and naproxin...

The question is more about what *kind* of pain this pain reliever is for.

Well... migraines but not. Imagine a migraine without any light or sound sensitivity, and add in a dash of constant, or at least daily occurance.

Aleve, every time. For me, it works better than Vicodin. (Clearly, I don't need to have any worries about becoming a narcotics junkie.) =)

Actually, interestingly enough, I tried naproxen sodium on this, and ended up with a worse headache. So unfortunately not an option for me. :(

It was attractive, too, because then I could take 2-3 a day and be done with it. Now I'm taking aspirin every 4-6 hours, and that gets annoying.

Advil or generic ibuprofen can be very hard on your liver when taken for long periods of time, as it tends to build up in the body ( ... )

I would prefer not to be taking any over the counter pain medications, but try getting an appointment with the headache clinic less than 2 months after the emergency room visit and see how far you get. The only things they would tell me when they discharged me were to contact the headache clinic, and here, have a prescription for 3x the recommended dose of ibuprofen ( ... )

Sounds migraine-ish to me.... (the throbbing and the only one side)

*hugs* Stinky headache clinics and their uber-full schedules...

Walgreens Migrane is the best stuff. Someone I worked with gave me some once and it is wonderful so now I have some in my desk at work and at home because I get headaches that sound like that on a semi regular basis.
