Mario wins, because of all his back up crew. Obviously a brother, a toadstool and a dinosaur beat Tails and Knuckles. What have they ever done for Sonic?

Besides, Mario can use awesome items like the cape and flower, wheras Sonic only has a shield that works once then dies.

Also, Nintendo has outlived Sega.

Also, Mario was made into an rpg character. Sonic has never had an adventure with a fully-customizable band of friends.
