Well, I finally did it. I have compiled all the poems I have written over the past several years that I think have some merit beyond keeping me sane. I'm going to actually try for real to make real, quality songs out of them ( Read more... )

this may sound retarded and non helpful, but.... i actually hum the bass riff out loud and then hunt around on my fret board for the matching notes...!
i've always played in bands where the music arrives somewhat organically through jam sessions or one band member presenting a riff that he didn't know what to do with. it then ends up being a highly structured thing, not 'jamming' at all.
but you're talking bout music to words? i can't even play guitar and talk at the same time!

I've never been the type to be able to just play what's in my head. I have to pick out the notes, write them out on some staff paper, then come up with the accompaniment. I have always wished I could play by ear, but I think I learned to read music too early. Also the endless music theory classes I took that trained me "classically" didn't help.
