After ending up with a fever, and LOTS of pain, I now am having my wisdom teeth removed on Thursday morning. Apparently the antibiotics they gave me are not getting rid of the infection fast enough. I'm pretty scared ( Read more... )

I doubt there is any statisical chance of you suffering permanent damage from one of the most frequently performed minor surgeries.

Those forms they make you sign that say they might have to break your jaw, or cut your muscle, or crazy stuff like that, are just because they are covering their own butt in case of a lawsuit.

You are alot safer at the dentist then you are driving your car in the snow. :-)

yes, well I hope you are right. The doctor told me that I WILL have damage to the nerve running through my jaw..but he is hoping that eventually the damage will heal, although it will probably take several months. There is a 5-10% chance, however, that it will never heal. So those are the statistics...that is why I am nervous.

I guess most of the time the teeth are not situated right over the nerve.

Wow. That sucks. I have had mine out. It isn't too bad. Just don't let it worry you! And make sure you take really good care in cleaning, etc...you don't want dry socket! AND...enjoy the pain pills!

Haha.

According to a medical conference I attended they claimed it was the most abused perscription drug. There must be something to like about it...

When I had my gastric bypass surgery and they told me that during the procedure there was a 1% to 2% chance of death. Kinda makes you think about a lot of things.

yea, that would be really spooky. I'm definitely grateful that I don't think I need to worry about death! Were you pretty scared before the surgery?

I feel you're lucky because you're getting them out. LOL Sorry, not very supportive, huh? I'm sure you're going to be fine. They're doctors and they know what they're doing. *hugs* I'm envious. I wish I could get mine taken out, but they're perfectly healthy. So, I've endured all four growing in since the age of 14. *winces*
