As some of you may know I’m rather apathetic, However recently I have become confused about the fox hunting ban. To be honest I don’t particularly care either way about foxes. However something in this whole thing actually has made me sit up & take notice ( Read more... )

Yeah I've always struggled with it myself. On the one hand it's pretty cruel, but being a strong believer in having the minimum number of laws, rather than as many as bloody possible I also don't think you should legislate against it. It annoys me no end that certain people who claim to be anarchists so readily support the ban, because of their animal rights beliefs. (But then I feel the same about many of them who support Hamas. Do the Palestinians have a right to their own state? No, because nobody bloody does, including the Israelies.) Rant, etc,.

So, tell me, and I really am curious, what is the minimum number of laws we could get away with in your ideal world?

Hmmm, well not ideal world, but ideal community. I'm not so arrogant as to think that my ideal socio-political system is right for everyone. Ideal community? None.

Back in the real world, the immediate withdrawl of laws that mean that your own body isn't your property. In a society that values property so very much, it's incredible how many laws we have that take away our rights about ourselves. So, drug possesion and prositution should be repealed. That would have the knock on effect of reducing sections of the prison population and greatly enhance the economy in terms of tax.

Oh and conspiracy to commit violent crime.

It's not an easy off the cuff question to answer and many people ask it in the hope that I'll say something they can scoff at and assign me to the crazy bin :)

Fox hunting ban - A political trick used to gain support, the suppression of the few by the will of the many & a shocking use of legislative power never seen before. Please, if the toffs really wanted it, they would've found a way of keeping it ( ... )

I agree - the foxhunting ban was a dumb idea, used to curry support amongst a majority that didn't (and still don't) understand the issue, but like cuteness

The use of the parliament act to bypass the upper chamber was insane levels of overkill, and demonstrates neatly how bad the government of the time thought the legislation was

Banning hijabs (even if you don't call it that, the route Belgium went down) is far more worrying, though I don't think we in this country will ever have that law
