Bailout is Lame

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26987291/That's cool. All those big kids makin' the big calls wanted their "anything goes" market. They got it and played the market as freely as they could. When the market refused to return their shady favours, suddenly they're socialist (but only ( Read more... )

Fairness is exactly right. This is bailing out the greedy and reckless by putting their burden on the shoulders of the people they tried to exploit in the first place. Cruel and Unusual Punishment, it seems to me. Good thing the prohibition on that has been eliminated by the administration.

Seriously. When the House initially rejected the bill I was happy. I thought for a moment we might have been seeing the return of the vox populi in our government. I wasn't surprised by it passing in the Senate but was completely dejected by the House's reversal of their previous "nay." It really angers me that this has been allowed to happen, especially after other deplorable political manipulations like the so-called Patriot Act.

It'd be a nice showing of voices if every politician that voted "yea" failed to be re-elected....

'Tis amazing that in hard economic times like this, the only people being catered to are the already rich & super rich.
I don't think this was an accident. I mean, I'm seriously starting to believe that this whole crashing the economy was intentional, and (hopefully) is the last way the Bush administration and their cronies steal from the people again before leaving office.

Think about it. This is an administration that lied to get us to war. (Have you heard the claims that before the war vote, Cheney went to congress and lied to certain reps. Told them Iraq had suitcase nukes?) So we spent billions on government contracts that managed to line Cheney's pockets (Halliburton). And then they have this bailout plan for awhile but only give it to congress right before the vote? It's all a tangled web of lies, and we are gonna get screwed no matter what:(

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. The bailout, especially in its first iteration, reeked of the fear-based/reactionary manipulation of the government off of which the Bush administration has thrived. Charges ought to be pressed!

Exactly right! This myth of the market being held together by Wall Street colossi is so over-hyped and untrue, it is just that, a myth. If the financial giants were to come crumbling down, a multitude of smaller businesses would rise to take their place. The threat wasn't the entire market crashing but the wealth of the greedy few falling into better, more fit (and needier) hands.

Hooray for the economic veil! Seriously. GG >_>;

Precisely. The answer is not to prop up these companies which fucked up, and which are obviously too large to safely be allowed to continue their private (i.e. not in the interest of the general good) activities ( ... )

They get what they deserve for manipulating the market in unfair ways. If the boys and girls want to gamble with there money thats fine and its a good way to generate revenue but once they start packaging loans that people can't afford perhaps there is some karmic justice after all? I think it's just the awareness has caught up but unfortunately we have a long way to go.

The unfortunate thing is that even if the government does regulate the heavy hitters in the financial district, i.e putting an end to predatory lending and making the business trusts pay a fair share in taxes, the fuckers pay like 15 percent where all other business entities pay about 33 percent, the human mind is free to create new loop poles while the government has a structure/laws and will always dinosaur behind.

How you been? Lets get together soon.

Well, the fix is to punish the crimes fairly, meaning they should actually punish the criminals.

Yes, we must hang out sometime, soon!
