I have been meaning for a time to start building some regular exercise back into my life but keep finding excuses such as spraining my ankle, building work etc ( Read more... )

Personally, I found joining the gym *was* my motivation... Otherwise the monthly payments became a waste of money I couldn't really afford. Maybe I'm just materialistic, but there ( ... )

Meh *slaps head*. Did I say lose weight? Stupid me. Putting on muscle actually increases your weight, but your percentage fat goes down, hence the love handles diminish... That's what I meant.

In eight weeks of regular excercise (weights + treadmill 3 times a week plus Yoga on the other three days with Sundays off) my weight increased by half a kilo and my percentage of body fat decreased by 3%.

cool. Well I have belonged to gyms on and off for years and never use the membership. This is why I decided I need to work it into my own routine and actualyl keep a diary (hence use the LJ) Once I start doing it day to day I can then try the gym.

Part of my problem with the gym is I have no idea what each exercise is doing or why i am doing it and feel embarressed to ask. I hope by doing it on here with people who have varying levels of knowledge and me being able to ask what an exercise is I will be more motivated and confident in what i am doing.

I'll add you to the filter so you can heckle me :)

Is there a Virgin Active gym near you? The people at the one's I have been to are very helpful; give you an induction course, show you how to use the machines etc etc. Plus they have odd machines for measuring pulse rate, body fat percentages. Damn good gyms. That's Richard Branson for ya.

In fact *all* gyms should have trainers and give you some kind of induction. I believe they can be prosecuted by health & safety if they don't. Or at least their insurance can't be valid...

And heckle you? Would I?

Please do add me to the filter. It's been 5 weeks since the gym shut down and I'm sad to say I only kept up my home regime for the first 2... You just motivated me to go do some exercise :)

On behalf of the Ninja Pirates, thank you for (finally) not dying. I died in my sleep as I hadn't turned that option on. Now, how do you go infect people then?
