So, to make a long story short, my roommate is psychotic. So I asked my leasing office if it were possible to get out of the lease and they said that as long as everyone agrees to it, you can cancel it at anytime. There are 3 of us and the psychotic one (knowing that she has all this "power") said no. So, we're virtual prisoners (I know, overly ( Read more... )

I have been in both position before. Where I need to be release, and the other is where I release others. Is there a reason why she didn't want to release you all? I know I didn't want to release my former roommates until they get the new comers on the lease (which they have many times failed with one of our roommates and this drove me up the wall). I became the 'psychotic' one in the house for wanting to keep everything in it's place and in order.

As far as the lease goes, she should return it to all of you. It's unfair that she keeps your copy of lease. You should approach the leasing office about it if possible and ask for a copy from them instead. Our leases are always with the leasing office as well.

I think she doesn't want to release us purely out of spite. When we "break" the lease, she gets to choose if she wants new roommates, if she wants a one bedroom, if she wants to move to a whole new place. It's not like we're leaving and she'll be stuck with all the rent. Plus, she basically lives at her boyfriends house anyway and only comes home to make a mess in the kitchen (or so it seems =) )
And as far as the lease, when I've asked, she just cusses at me lol, so it's not worthwhile =) You're right, I'll wait for the office.

x.x The cussing part is not mature alright. And that's just pure unreasonable.. I suppose if she is not going to be stuck with all the rent, then there shouldn't be a reason that she shouldn't release any of you. :\ I'm sort of wondering what would her condition be to release all of you... and if she is even up for any negotiation. Why would she want to 'trap' all of you anyway if she hates all of you? o___o ( ... )

The worst part is that she had her boyfriend come over, chase me out the door and cuss me out. So I asked to break the lease. And she won't. I don't think she is psychotic in a bitchy way, I mean I really, truly think this girl is off her rocker lol. And I can't say anything back b/c with my luck I'd lose my job (I'm a teacher so I have to be careful what I do in public). I've tried talking nicely (for real) and seeing what she wants and all she'll do is scream at me. And tell me ghosts are responsible for the mess in the kitchen (I forgot that one--thats the more entertaining part). And the most ironic thing is that she wants to be a psychologist o.O

I'm glad you shared your story, at least I'm not alone lol. And maybe theres a light at the end of this tunnel!
