Night 56: Main Hallway, 2-West

[from here]Her feet touched the second floor, and she paused, motionless in the dark as her ears strained around her. This was the first place to be wary of. Multiple times this area had been dangerous--and the hall right past it moreso. She listened, carefully, waiting. No sound other than the creaks and sounds of the night came back to her. And then he would've said something else, but he shut his mouth and stopped walking the second he came out of the stairwell.

So this was the second floor. It...didn't seem too different than the first floor, actually. There seemed to be two hallways up ahead much like the ones downstairs that lead to the patient blocks. Where these particular hallways lead, however, was a different story, one that Byrne and Badd were likely going to find out tonight. What could be up here that the staff didn't want the patients to see? A simple staff-only area, or something more sinister?

Oh, right, they were talking. That could wait for a second. They were here, they needed to start their mission. "It's a lot like the first floor," he commented.

"Someone put up floor plans a few days ago. I wish I'd thought to copy it down." Badd shown his flashlight off to the right. "That way should be the balcony over the Sun Room, but I'm not sure what's beyond it." He'd let Faraday pick right or left, it didn't seem to matter which.

He turned back to Faraday, still wearing that mildly sheepish expression. "It got complicated, I'm not sure where to start over. I'm not even up to that mess that went down at the embassy."

There'd been floor plans? Where? Were they put up before Byrne arrived? Hell, those could be really useful right now. Not that they couldn't find their way on their own or anything. It just simplified things. A lot.

Byrne shook his head. "Just...Hold on a second. We'll worry about it when we get moving somewhere." Wherever 'somewhere' was. Badd had been letting him lead so far, so Byrne wasn't going to ask whether the detective felt left or right was the better way. It didn't matter in the end, they didn't know what was down either way. They just needed to choose one path and get to investigating already.

So Byrne was going to choose right. "Alright. Let's see what's beyond the Sun Room balcony then."

Fine, he'd put the story on hold for now. It was probably troublesome for Byrne to take in the entire tale at once, not to mention how much he was flipping Byrne's perceptions of the world up, down, and sideways. The incident in Miles' office wasn't something he was proud of. He hadn't expected the prosecutor to come in at 2am, and finding Buddy Faith's body on the floor had just made him panicky enough to do something stupid when Edgeworth walked in. They probably would have lowered his sentence if he'd just slipped out the door innocently...but in the scheme of his past failures it was a minor offense. He hoped Byrne would understand.

"Fine."
