There was no one in the hall when he and Peter emerged from the stairwell, which put Firo on edge. Was everyone else who'd left their rooms tonight simply elsewhere (such as checking out the medical wing), or was there a different reason that the hallway was so abandoned? He couldn't smell blood, at least, but that didn't mean that there was nothing lurking in the shadows...

He nodded when Peter gestured to the left, and kept close as they continued down the hall. Dexter, at least, had proven capable enough to survive the surprise attack from the cats, but he had no indication of how well Peter could handle himself-just that he'd been a nurse before winding up here. The fact that Peter had been in a wheelchair just a few days ago didn't do much to bolster his confidence in the other's fighting skills.

For the moment, it seemed quiet enough that a question might not hurt. "So how often do they take people in for experiments?"

As things were, the only option they had was to keep moving. Peter realized that the fact that their path was so clear should be a good thing, but it was never too late for something to ambush them. It had been in the hallway after this that he and Claire had been assaulted by those hallucinations, right? He knew that things like that generally shifted around across the building, but he couldn't help but be nervous
