[From here.]Was it just him, or was it a ghost town up here? Not literally, hopefully, but the point still stood. Peter didn't hear any voices in the distance and didn't spot any stray flashlight beams in any direction ( Read more... )

Well, looked like they were still the only ones going this way, aside from the other two men that he'd seen also going up the stairs. It looked like they might be headed to the same place too, judging by the direction that the older man was heading in. Did they also have someone who'd been taken in for experimentation? No shortage of allies in unexpected places here...

"Okay, seems like we're in the clear for now," Niikura said tersely as he scanned the hall with his flashlight. "I've actually never been on the second floor before so...guess we gotta be extra careful 'cause I've got no idea what's around here."

Sesshoumaru looked mildly contemptuous as he looked around himself, either at the surroundings or at Niikura's words, though which he seemed so scornful of wasn't quite clear. Perhaps it was both. He was, after all, so arrogant.

There were people up here still, and Sesshoumaru spared them some attention. They did not, however, seem as though they were a threat, and were therefor currently beneath his notice, until (and if) the proved they merited it. He paid attention to other things the walls and the floor, the dark expanse of the hallway stretching, cold and hungry. It was a curious sensation, and an annoying one. The biting sting of whatever scent it was pricked at his nose again with greater force.

Sesshoumaru looked at Niikura for a moment, and followed after him. He was for now a guide, though a poor one if he had never been here. It didn't matter, perhaps.

Was he tensing? Oh man, no way was that happening...but it was true. There was something chilling about the unknown- in fact, Niikura had very little experience with the unknown. As Akumetsu, he'd nearly always been perfectly in control of the situation; even when he'd been called upon to improvise, there'd always been something he could make use of, or someone else, another him, who could pick up the reins and save the day. Here, though, it was just him...

It was a kind of exhilarating feeling, absolute nervousness. He hadn't felt it in a while, now that he thought about it.

"So nothing else's really hangin' around, huh? Other than those guys," Niikura asked, jerking his head in the direction of the two other men in the hallway. He was really playing with fire here; those kinds of assertions always got proven false in five seconds or so.

Sesshoumaru was not often afraid - fear was an emotion for lesser creatures, and as a result he could probably count on one hand the number of times that he had been made afraid or even truly nervous since reaching maturity. Why should he fear when he was the only thing worth fearing? He was weaker here, but still himself - besides which the arrogant patterns of the centuries had long since settled into his bones. It would take more than this to change that.

Sesshoumaru glanced over at the other, his temporary companion, at his question. His eyes narrowed slightly. "Hn." Scents overlapped here, but the disinfectant burned his nose when he focused too hard and his head shot with pain that was settling into a distant, steady, throbbing ache which he had no desire to further feed. If these two were not all, if there were others who were hostile, than they would be... dealt with.

"I'll take that as a 'no'," Niikura said flatly. "Cool. Well, let's keep moving, then." He hadn't expected Sesshoumaru to be a good conversationalist by even the most liberal definition of the word, but honestly, this was getting kind of annoying. The guy seemed intent on trailing him, though, for whatever reason.

Heh, maybe it was because of his hair. Or his awesomeness.

...Definitely the awesomeness. He just radiated it, after all.
