... Byrne should have known something was wrong when he didn't see Badd standing outside in the hall. But he didn't think anything of it at first, merely assumed that the detective was taking his time and was still in his room. Obviously Byrne was trying very hard to be optimistic tonight.
He approached the door (M14, right? Yes, it was) and knocked, just in case, well, somebody else was in there or something. Barging into a room unannounced was rude unless it was a life-or-death situation, which this wasn't. (Funny thing to say in a place like this.) After knocking, he counted the seconds it took for Badd to answer.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
Weird. Maybe he hadn't heard him knocking? Try again, this time a little louder. Knock knock knock.One, two, three...fifteen, sixteen, seventeen...thirty-three ( ... )
