Ilia bit her lip when Rose mentioned the promise she had made Lily. Empty promises could sometimes hurt worse than physical pain. But it showed that Rose either had faith in herself to look after her friend, or she was much more tender-hearted than Ilia had be led previously to believe.
Why the hell had someone thought to bring this precious girl here? Rose believed in magical powers and honestly cared for their friends; a place like Landel's could only break a person like that down. The anger burned even hotter within her, and Ilia sped up her pace.
"Let's find her quickly then. We'll turn that falsehood into a truth."
Talking to Ilia was weird. She was reasonable, and intelligent, but every once in a while she resembled maternal. Not the kind of maternal Rose's mom exhibited, but the apple-pie kind, the kind that didn't come from a store. Like John and his dad, but without separating confectioneries into affectionate and projectile weapons of parental affection.
