Okay, not to totally rain on your happy parade, but why in the hell did you want such a fixer upper? I can understand doing a couple of things to fix the place up and get a better price, but that's a hell of a lot of work you've got there.
It's not really, though. A lot of it is just redecorating and doing unneccesary stuff that we want to do. And we've been finding out that's it's pretty easy to do stuff like install a shower. The deck is mostly being done by Frank's amazingly handy dad, too. Same thing with the work those two did the week we moved in.
And I guess we like the work, really. I know I'm loving making things pretty. It's all the stuff I never got to do in an apartment because I couldn't make things permanent. Considering the amount of work we guessed we'd have to do with the other houses we looked at (like building an addition! totally redoing walls and bathrooms!), this seems like cake in comparison.
*Looks dubious* ok, if'n you say so. Based on some of the stuff you mentioned though, -the plumbing in the house could really use an overhaul (some older copper, some CAST IRON, some places kept together only by duct tape!!!) -the SE corner of the house's foundation is in really rough shape -- the concrete blocks got so waterdamaged due to bad drainage/grading that the outside faces of the blocks literally DISINTEGRATED!!!, leaving only the inside portion intact -the wiring is older copper, and could be redone (and all the plugs given proper grounds) -no main floor bath or shower, which means we need to fit one in
Rewiring an entire house isn't exactly easy peasy work. Neither is majorly fucking with plumbing. Damn, your father-in-law must be one HELL of a handy-man. You guys are quite lucky then.
