This is excellent! It actually makes sense of the very contradictory standards we're presented with in the books.

Thanks! I actually should give swythyv some credit. She suggested in an essay on the Black family that "toujours pur" may have originally been about something other than blood purity.

This is fascinating, and certainly puts a new spin on it.

Possibly! Wikipedia says that the magical traditions of the cunning folk predated Christianity, even though most cunning folk were Christian in the later centuries.

Apparently "cunning" comes from the Old English verb "cunnan," which meant "to know, to have power to, to be able to."

came here from deathtocapslock! I really like what you've written, it's a very good series of points you made. It's also nicely written.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I was so excited to read this because I have been working for a very long time (when I have time) on a fanfic which is based on the same ideas and how Slytherin is so misunderstood.
Hopefully I'll be able to post it soon.
I am friending you, hope you don't mind as I really don't have anything interesting on my page, since I have been spending all my free/hobby time tearing my hair out over my unfinished fic:)

I am now off to read your other posts...

Thanks! I look forward to reading your fic! And I have friended you back. I don't post very often in my own journal either, though.
