I Hate Andrea Bocelli

I sat in La Flor this morning eating my refried beans and drinking my espresso when the cafe's sound system began playing an Andrea Bocelli cd, the one with his cover of "Besame Mucho." And it made me yearn for someone who really knows how to sing the song ( Read more... )

Do you wear a leisure suit, or do you prefer to wear your Johnny Carson coordinates?

I believe Johnny's Coordinates are 6-feet under.

Anyway, here's my lounge rendition of a Steely Dan song:

You know that friendly and generous Korean couple I'm always posting about? Unfortunately friendliness and generosity don't correlate with good taste. One of Hera's favourite CDs is some Bocelli travesty, which I put up with because it's at least an improvement over Christian balladeering. Barely.

I once missed out on sex with an incredibly hot little furball because I couldn't bring myself to say nice things about Bocellism. Not regretting that!

She's so wonderful. I only saw her once, live, here in SF about ten years ago. As usual, she took a little break from singing in an armchair off to the side of the stage. And smoked a cigarette.

When I was in high school, all the kids in language classes switched language teachers for a week, all the French kids went to Spanish, Spanish to German, and German to French. One of the things I remember best was learning the words to Besame mucho - como il fuera esta noche de la ultima vez - it's such a sad song.

Talking about Mariza, I have tickets to see her in November, 1st row, seats 14 & 15 - snap!

In my high school German class every Friday was spent singing: Christmas carols, beer drinking songs, lieder, even "Wann Irren Augen Laecheln." Pedagogical benefits aside, this singing in class enabled me to win "Name that German Tune" every year at the NYS high school German club convention (Es Sagt's - the Empire State Society for the Advancement of German Traditions and Studies). And every year my homeroom teacher, the school's German teacher, made sure my achievements were announced on the school p.a. system.

Wanna be popular in high school? Make sure your homeroom teacher announces your German song contest win every year.
