Thanks, Rabbi.

The Jews invented the sandwich, long before Earl So-and-So needed a portable snack at the poker table.

They truly are the Chosen People.

Also, this sandwich physically excites me. A la fairytale ( Read more... )

Rabbi Hillel was such a tzadik (righteous man.) Oh the stories of him. Not only did he invent the sandwich, somebody came in and told the rabbi to teach him the whole Torah on one food, so Rav Hillel says “Do not do to others what you would not have them do to you. . .The rest is just commentary.”

The man invented the sandwich AND the Golden Rule!? Where are these kinds of thinkers today?

I like your new hair cut. It got me thinking - would you be offended by a non-Jew wearing their hair that way, because they thought it looked cool? Not that I'm going to cut mine or anything, I'm just curious.

We're on such a lower level than any of the Talmudic Rabbi's.

Well, the thing is hardly any Jews have their hair like that. That would be interesting to see, and I'm not too sure how I'd feel.

"The filling between the matzohs served as a reminder of the suffering of the Jews before their deliverance from Egypt..."

The Jews may have invented the sandwich but it would seem they left it up to the Europeans to discover how to actually enjoy the eating of it.

Anyway, ever had the tofu sandwich at Paseo's in Fremont? It's only the greatest sandwich I've ever consumed in my life. Though it does require a small orchard's worth of napkins, as it is very, er, moist.

M.O.? I'm guessing you mean the masterful, magnanimous marsupial known as Matt Olsen. How's that pouch treating you, by the way? Incubate anything of note?

I don't think I've even heard of Paseo's in Fremont. I eat the tofu sanchwich at Moishe's in Capitol Hill with alarming frequency. The lady gave me a hard time about it, actually. Oh wow, that sounds so good. I want like three of them right now.

Are you a "moist" detractor? I know people that literally squirm when that word it uttered. I like it for its onomatopoeic qualities.

Indeed, I am the wombat in question and, since you asked, the pouch remains decidedly unmoist.
Speaking of which, "moist" doesn't typically give me the wim-wams. I only hesitated in this instance as my praise of the sandwich had already been excessively gushing and I didn't want to risk overextending the metaphor / overstimulating the reader.

Re: the tofu sandwich. You owe it to yourself to enjoy several dozen of those little beauties in the upcoming year. But be warned, once Paseo's has been eaten, other foods become ashes in the mouth. Though I think Paseo's is currently closed for the holidays until mid-January, it is located on the west side of Fremont Avenue about halfway up the hill. Maybe on 40th street or so? North of the Buckaroo Tavern but south of the laundromat.

While I could have looked up the exact address via internet, I opted not to do so. That's my modus operandi, or, to be more succinct, my M.O.

4225 Fremont Ave N.

Thank goodness my interweb skillz are what they are, otherwise I may never have found it.

I couldn't locate any online information regarding their open/closed status, but a quick phone call proved you correct: they are closed until Friday, January 26th, at which point they are open 11am-9pm. That's a long time to wait for a sandwich. I'm hungry now. It's very disapppointing.
