I don't know how many of you ever played The Oregon Trail for the good ol' Apple IIe, but thanks to my dear friend Charlie (meeting her is one of the things I am most thankful for about working on the nightmare that was Caucasian Chalk Circle), I have recently rediscovered it using the magic of emulation. She IMed me just last night to say that ( Read more... )

I'm reminded of something you said to me once...I believe it was along the lines of: "like i needed another reason to hate native americans".

Wow, did I really say that? Actually, I'm sure I did. I'll just have to add "Native Americans" to the list that Charlie is making me create of all the people I have no tolerance for.

The Oregon Trail game is amazing!

I never got any farther then the Columbia River (which, actually, is really FUCKING far). I could have made it...

I believe you. Maybe one day I'll make a party with you and I in it and see how far we get together. :-)

I would just like to point out that I would be a MUCH better Charlie to have along for a trip out west. For one, my impeccable taste in decorating would have your 8-bit covered wagon looking fabulous in no time. My double-jointedness and lack of a gag reflex would render me immune to such perils as broken limbs and moonshine-induced vomiting. And finally, my extensive knowlege of pop songs from the past three decades would keep the caravan amused for minutes.

So on your next ill-fated journey out west, choose this Charlie: I'll die for you in style.

I wish I could find the links for you. Alas, I just downloaded it and moved on with my life. But, I mean, at least I entertained you for a while. I guess.

We were definitely required to play during computer class in elementary school because it was supposed to be educational or something. My favorite lunch-time "game" was the one where you had the little turtle and you could tell him to draw lines and make shapes and shit.

Ahhhhhh! We used to play that game at lunch practically every day! For the record, it's absolutely impossible to get from St. Louis to the Pacific in 30 minutes.
