Today was Ro's followup with Dr. EyeVet. His cornea has cleared up considerably and his eye looks like an eye again, which indicates that the meds are working. Vet still saw some inflammation in the iris, so we're medicating for another two weeks on a slow taper-off from the original aggressive dose, then she'll see him again. He has a dilated ( Read more... )

So glad to hear Ropup is doing better. May it continue so!

I take it you had to unload that 1,000 lb of hay yourself when you got home? Eeep. (I'm thinking it's just about time to pull Mae off pasture for the summer. Poor girl! I've been double-dosing Remission, so at least her crest has softened up some. I could knit a new horse out of the fur I've been pulling off Dare.)

Take care of that hand!

Thank you.

Yep, had to unload. Haven't been able to swing delivery, plus the delivery guy charges $1 more per bale. So $100 more per month. His hay hasn't been great, either, whereas the place with the lower price has amazing hay. The horses are fat for the first time in a couple of years. I've been struggling to keep them in condition, and a simple change of hay supplier has done the trick.

Though as soon as there's a little extra in the kitty, I'm going to see what new hay supplier would charge to deliver. Just for a break once in a while.

I've been SO lucky with my hay guy--he delivers, unloads, and stacks in my hay room twice a year for less than four bucks a bale (my bales are 40-50 lb), and he's driving a 200-mile round trip to do it. I've had only one bad load in seven years, and he took the remaining bales back for credit.

Unfortunately I don't have a backup supplier, which makes me very, very nervous.

Good hay guy, good farrier--pearls beyond price.

I just saw that hay here is 19.50 to 20.00 per 100# bale. Thank goodness that this year has been an easy winter with little or no feeding since late November, because I can see that come late May or June I'll have to feed till the grass comes in again, some time between November and March....

FEI rule change sounds like it is really big and not entirely correct....
