I'm glad you can relate! The book "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle is the one that has really struck a chord with me. It's really cool. He is basically all about trying to diminish the "ego" (a word that he really has a more in-depth meaning for than the one we are used to hearing) and being in the present moment. But more like the kind of "being" that you were talking about...not thinking about the past, just living each moment as it comes. In fact, not thinking at all would be the best. I guess it's a bit zen-ish. There is a LOT more to it. I'm trying to condense. I have never heard of Diamond heart...and that other thing about the culmination of past events that have happened to you and keeping them in mind...that seems totally backwards. Tolle is all about NOT thinking...especially not thinking about the past or the future. We are all so obsessed with Past and Future that we hardly ever enjoy what's right in front of us. Forget the past ( ... )

I think the point is doing what makes you happy. Our concept of "self" extends further than just our bodies, we're connected to the Earth, made out of the same stuff. The animals don't wonder why, they just are. We have consciousness, so we assume that that means that there's actually something to know. But what if there isn't? I think the point of life is just to live it. Society told us we have to make something of ourselves. Indigenous folk don't worry about that stuff.

sandra, california has turned me into a fucking hippie.

hah! you hippie! dancinnkitchens May 13 2009, 01:10:12 UTC
Yes exactly! The animals know where it's at...they don't THINK and that's where they are ahead of us. hah. I agree with you...the point of life should be just to Live it. But our society is designed in such a way that we sort of Have to make something of ourselves...just to be able to live. This is why money sucks.

Also, people like aborigines are SO COOL and they know where it's at.

James Hillman said "I think we are unhappy mostly because we have only one god, and that's economics." Keep reading! He's a good man!
