I say call him back.

Explain what happened when he called... lead into the fact that you were going to explain it in class... which leads into "do you need the notes/questions/etc from that class" which leads into a "how about a drink tonight" or "what are you doing this weekend?"

Oh I definitely will call him back, but it has to wait until Sunday at least because that's the first chance I'll get at finding out if there was a message on my phone. I can't get drinks tonight or this weekend because I'm leaving for Seattle... :(

Thanksgiving Break.

But, now my plan of action is to just call him and throw out an open invitation to get coffee/beer/something with me when we get back from break. Nothing else. No academic stuff thrown in. Might as well.
