I am getting a bit tired of over use of "apocalypse" to describe the current economy.
It is a "depression". It is not an "apocalypse".
If we get to the point of financial "apocalypse"- as almost happend back on September 20th- you'll know. Really.

I've always associated apocalypse with lots of fire. Must be that Christian upbringing I had. Or growing up during the Reagan years.

It's not an apocalypse to us, the people who will pay for it in the end. It's an apocalypse to the CEO's and bankers, who are looking at the possibility that rather than retiring with $200M they'll only have $10M.
By that metric, it *is* the (inadequately partial) destruction of the ruling powers of evil.

But then I get immense amounts of bitter-happiness at the whole 'who could have seen this coming!? oh noes wait, you need to give us LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY so we can retain the only people who got us into this mess in the first place*
*and seriously, you don't need to pay them bonuses to stay. I would LIKE TO SEE THEM TRY getting paid anywhere near as much [OR INDEED FIND ANY OTHER JOB RIGHT NOW] at other corporations. Suck it up, the ride is over, is what Govt needs to be saying right now.
