I can't recall the exact day I moved to Japan. I could look up when I got here in February 2010. Japanese residence started in June 2009 when I visited for the summer on my spouse visa, having got married during my easter visit and then had $WIFE run around getting the visa sorted before my next visit (I didn't leave it to her through laziness, getting a Japanese visa is much easier to do when someone relevant in Japan is filing all the paperwork and submitting it here then providing the "certificate of eligibility" to the recipient).
I agree with all the statements about choosing the problems you'll have to deal with, but then I'm an expat, too.

Happy anniversary! Like you, I'll take the problems here over the ones I left behind.

We're glad you and khaybee chose our islands and decided to stay. We are richer for it.

PS One has to jump through some hoops to login when one no longer has access to an old email address. And one also needs to review how LJ works.

Hi. I'm a friend of lois2037 . My family is considering moving to NZ. I have two college friends who have built new lives there already -- of course they married kiwi's so their emigration path was slightly different.

Was hoping that I could read through your journey to get an idea about what we face if we decide to make this leap.

So happy to hear that despite the struggle, you are clearly kiwi-ized.
