seriously diggin' the warmth of your palette on this new one, Dan! is that a new direction or is this the first time i'm seeing it?
the dark masses and the flatness of such areas are totally evoking fusuma/byobu designs...and i love that. you've read Murakami's 'SuperFlat' theory, i assume...
thanks. the palette stuff is in tuitive i guess. been trying to cut out a lot of color actually. use it more sparingly. i've been checking out a lot of the japanese stuff we were talking about, actually, composition/pattern-wise.
i haven't read superflat actually. truth be told, i'm not that wild about his work, or much of the stuff associated with that "movement" (is that the word?). personally, i'm kinda trying to turn away from a certain kind of "pop" sensibility i guess (though some of that will always be there). which isn't really a judgment beyond my own work, but there's a certain type of work that's riffing off of commerical design that's less and less useful to me.
i can understand about the hoo-ha over Murakami's work (did i just use 'hoo-ha'?)... i did go to his mid-career survey at the Geffen Contemporary in LA and was totally seduced by his work purely on the basis of form

Dan the new joint is soooooooo nice brother! That touch on the left is on point. It does resembles Hayao Miyazaki's stuff. On the real let's plan on some of that studio visit both ways, I'd love that. Anyway homes, powerful things going on here.
